Now he has four, a 1928 American LaFrance fire engine, a 1940 Ford fire engine, a 1970 Rescue/Light Unit and a unique 100-foot 1947 American LaFrance 700 Tiller ladder truck. He has driven everything from steam fire engines to very unique and rare units so he never really had the “need” to get one of his own until he transferred to Mountain View. Serving in the San Jose Fire Department in California for 25 years gave him the privilege to work and drive antique fire apparatus since the company has an extensive collection of them. His dream came true and because of his job servicing others he was able to start collecting fire engines and fire trucks. Growing up poor in Cuba, it was his dream to one day be able to have his own American Iron car. He owns a 1956 Cadillac Eldorado, a 1957 and ’58 Cadillac Limo, two 1959 Cadillacs and several other cars and trucks. ![]() ![]() Juan Diaz has been a fire chief in Mountain View, Calif., for the past 8 months but has been in the fire service for just over 30 years.
